Hare & Moon Wall plaque | Cold cast pewter on a ceramic tile ( gift boxed)

Hare and Moon plaque by Kirsty Armstrong sculpture

Hare & Moon plaque 2012

I first sculpted this design of a moon gazing Hare as a brooch. I have now expanded it and produced this wall plaque in cold-cast pewter. The words around the outside are the Pagan words associated with the Moon gazing Hare; Fertility, new beginnings, growth, abundance, rebirth and good fortune.

After casting, the plaques are polished, buffed, waxed and finished by hand, by me, in Cumbria.

The pewter hopefully gives the piece a moonlit-look, and I add acrylic gem stones for extra sparkle. The gift box is made from recycled board, and the packaging box for posting is made by ‘Cumbriabox’ a company local to me. The plaque measures approx. 9cm x 9cm and is mounted on a ceramic tile (13cm x 13 cm) with a brass hanger on the reverse. The black gift box is hand-decorated with lilac raffia, silver paint and a gift-tag, and the tile is safely snuggled in shredded lilac tissue paper.

Hare Brooch

Hare & Moon Brooch

Sculpted in relief and made in cold-cast pewter by me in my coal shed, this little brooch symbolised the pagan belief that a moon-gazing Hare is associated with new beginnings, growth, fertility, abundance, re birth and good fortune. Gift-boxed in a black jewellery box decorated with lilac paper raffia.

I always like to include detail of the feet of any animal I sculpt, and his pads are my favourite part of this little Hare…my name is also on his bottom!
