A further donation to the Hare Preservation Trust has now been made following the sell out of my Hare sculpture, ‘Harriet’.

Thank you to all my customers who have bought my Harriet Hare sculpture over the years. With each sale I’ve donated an amount to The Hare Preservation Trust – HPT

Now that all 150 Harriets have found homes, I’ve just donated the final amount, bringing the total donated to £450 for this very good cause!

Below is a summary of The Hare Preservation Trust’s aims:

•Gain legal protection for hares during the breeding season.
•Raise awareness of threats to hares particularly illegal hunting
•Supports research into the reason for the hares decline
•Provides information for the public when they find injured or abandoned hares

I aim to sculpt a new hare this year, from which I’m very happy to donate to this cause close to my heart again.

My newest Red Squirrel wall sculpture, ‘Maple’, is now in production in cold cast bronze. She’s the first in a series of wall sculpture busts from the new ‘HEADS UP! range. They are made here in the north of England, and most importantly, they are designed, sculpted and produced entirely by hand.

You can read all about this red squirrel below, so I’ll just say here that if you’d like more details on her availability and on how to order, then please do get in touch.

The next to be sculpted in the ‘HEADS UP!’ range will probably be a Fox cub…

Erik Otter Sculpture. Hand-Painted limited edition for Indoor Display Only.
View/Shop | Otters

Say hello to Erik Otter, one of the most recent wildlife sculptures from my northern-England studio. This detailed sculpture captures a young European otter pup (Eurasian Otter – Lutra lutra) in rich, lifelike form: hand painted in warm chocolate browns and soft golden sand tones, Erik stands approx 14″ (35 cm) tall — life-size for a 3-4 month old young otter.

Every piece is entirely handmade in the UK. I start each new piece with a wax original sculpted by hand using traditional sculpting techniques. Subsequently, after moulding, each piece is cast in high-quality white resin, and finally hand-painted. This British hand made sculpture distinguishes himself from mass-produced figurines.

Why Erik will enhance your home

• Striking interior focal piece – His life-size scale and detailed sculpted fur draw the eye and command attention in a hallway, living room, study or dedicated display area.
• Artist-made in the UK – Handcrafted in Cumbria by a sculptor with decades of experience in wildlife art.
• Limited edition – Each piece is made to order; the edition size is capped (300 pieces across finishes) giving you a collectible item of provenance.
• Rich, natural finish – The warm tones and detailed texture evoke the otter’s soft fur and character.
• Ready to display – Specifically designed for indoor use to ensure optimal paint finish and presentation.
• A donation is also made to the Hillswick Wildlife Sanctuary on Shetland with every purchase – Hillswick rescue, rear, and rehabilitate Otters and seals on Shetland.

About the artist…

I have been working as a figurative sculptor for almost 40 years, practicing only traditional sculpting techniques. My wildlife pieces are rooted in careful anatomical observation and expressive sculpting, sculpted and finished in my rural Cumbria studio. The moulds and casts are produced for me by a specialist company based in the Cumbrian Lake District. My range spans life-size sculptures to more intimate pieces, all crafted with a passion for British wildlife.

Erik Otter is available in six different finishes from my established and linked online store (Just Kirsty Sculpture & Gifts) on British Craft House .

The cost to US customers for importing goods from the UK will certainly now increase. However, there is still no clarity or certainty on the ‘size’ of the impending duties.

Hopefully, as the situation becomes clearer over the next few weeks, I’ll be able to review my position.

What finishes will it be available in…?
I am producing the Wren sculpture as a limited edition of 300 pieces in four different finishes; cold-cast bronze, iron and pewter, as well as a realistically coloured hand painted version. These will be cast for me by the team at Lakeland Mouldings in Cumbria, before being polished by me here in my studio. The specialist figurine painting company, GlenFirra of Langholm in The Scottish Borders, will hand paint the coloured version for me.

Foundry bronze option…

In addition, 12 numbered pieces will be hand made to order in foundry bronze. The design of the foundry bronze Wren is slightly different, in that it has an extremely fine beak. This feature is only possible to produce in a hot pour foundry bronze. Coloured patinas can also be added. The price for the limited edition foundry bronze Wren is available on request.

The foundry bronze Wrens are hand cast by Aron McCartney of the Mc@rt studios, Barnard Castle, in the north of the UK. Aron also moulded and cast the Max the ‘miracle’ dog bronze statue from my wax original.

A very happy summer solstice to you all…

Above is the larger ‘Halcyon Days’ wall sculpture (approx. 14”(35cm) in diameter). Here, I’ve hand cast it in a very fine and dense casting plaster. It is then decorated using bronze lacquer and verdigris paste.

Originating from Greek legend, the ‘Halcyon’ was a Kingfisher-like sea bird. It was believed to have the power to calm the seas around the ‘winter’ solstice, enabling it to safely make a nest and rear its young on still waters. Over the centuries the meaning of ‘Halcyon days’ has changed somewhat. It is now more associated with the Summer Solstice and a nostalgic view of the long hot summers in days gone by…

You can view my Halcyon days solstice wall sculpture on my British Craft House online store HERE.

I’ve sculpted this new Labrador Retriever plaque (in relief) to add to various gift lines which I produce. I’ve made them in cold-cast metals, and inscribed some personality traits of the breed around the edges.

How are they made?…

I’ve first sculpted the original plaque in modelling wax. A mould was then made for me by Lakeland Mouldings, based in the English Lake District. I have now begun to cast them here by hand in my Cumbrian studio and add them to my Labrador Retriever gifts range.

The design is available in cold-cast pewter (black Lab), copper (chocolate Lab), and bronze (yellow Lab). They have been added to large square treat tins (ready filled!), box frames, and lead hooks.

Secret-shopper list …

If you’d like to be on the ‘secret shopper’ list and get them directly from me now with a little reduction for being first (and before they go live on my online shop!), please just send me a message for more information.
