‘Charles’ and ‘Willow’, my red squirrel sculptures, have finally had their first offspring; ‘George’. I finished sculpting him in wax last week and took him to ‘Lakeland mouldings’ in the Lake district to be moulded. Today, I sold the final available ‘Charles’ of the limited edition of 100 ! I began selling ‘Charles’ just before Christmas, 2010. I’m going to miss making him, but ‘George’, the squirrel kitten, is on the way and ‘Willow’ and ‘Hope’ are selling well….

I’ve finally decided, after many different compositions, on the content and pose for my new squirrel piece to follow ‘Charles’ and ‘Willow’! I have just been asked to sculpt four bronze Spitfires. They will be quite large and as they have no eyes and feet, a bit of a departure from my usual animal sculptures! I will post my progress as I go…. Here’s a picture I took of the real thing.

My design for ‘The Pendlebury Award’ won the competition held by the North Pennines AONB. It is now finished and it’s been presented to Maraget Bradshaw, the first recipient. I sculpted the deep relief view in wax, then after moulding I cast it in plaster. I have just launched ‘Hope’, my new wall plaque sculpture of a Red squirrel in deep relief’.
